Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a learning pathway available for young people in senior secondary. VET provides students with the opportunity to engage in education and training which may lead to employment and/or further study.
Successful completion of VET provides students with nationally recognised qualifications that deliver the skills and knowledge required for specific industries and occupations.
VET qualifications can be undertaken in Years 10, 11 and 12 and may provide credit towards the VCE. Students completing the VCE VM must complete a minimum 180 nominal hours of VET at Certificate II level or above.
Why Study VET?
- VET qualifications can contribute towards your VCE, VCE VM or VPC.
- Develop technical skills through specialised training for a specific job or industry.
- Develop non-technical skills that can be applied across different jobs and industries. Skills include:
- Gain knowledge through specialised training to understand and perform specific workplace tasks.
- Learn how an industry works – see the big picture and learn how to progress your career.
- VET can lead to full-time, part-time or casual employment opportunities. This flexibility may allow you to follow multiple interests at the same time – like employment, education and volunteering.
- Apprenticeships and traineeships allow you to earn an income as you train, study and work.
- Once you receive a VET qualification you may be able to gain employment that can finance further studies – like a more advanced qualification.
- A VET qualification in an area with increasing job opportunities may provide you with a secure income.
- VET can lead to TAFE or university – it is up to you and your goals
VET at CESC
We offer VCE VET certificates and traditional VET Certificates. In 2025, students can undertake one of the following areas of study onsite at CESC:
- Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion & Textiles
- Certificate II in Active Volunteering
- Certificate II in Hospitality (VCE VET)
- Certificate II Health Support Services & Certificate III Health Services Assistant (VCE VET)
- Certificate III in Business (VCE VET)
- Certificate III Information Technology (VCE VET)
- Certificate III Sport, Aquatics & Recreation (VCE VET)
Please note: Year 10 students that have been recommended to do an internal VET course also have access to the above courses.
We offer VET Taster courses in Year 11, which offer students a minimum of 90 nominal hours in an area of study, this equates to half of the required hours for a VCE VM Certification.
