In year 8 our focus is on improving student outcomes in a stimulating, supportive and enjoyable learning environment. We provide our students with valuable life-long learning experiences through engaging curriculum and a range of exciting extra-curricular activities. We work collaboratively with the wellbeing team who offer a range of targeted programs that assist year 8 students to build resilience, positive relationships and make informed decisions.
Students undertake a number of subjects each semester designed to provide them with a range of learning opportunities. This allows students to draw on their passions and decide what subjects they would like to pursue in the middle and senior years of schooling.
Students will study the follow subjects:
- Design Technology
- Food Technology
- Physical Education/Health
*Students are divided into learning groups for English and Mathematics so we can support the needs of individual students in smaller class sizes.
Year 8 Student Voice
The year 8 team values the student voice program. It is a key strategy in the promotion of student leadership and engagement within Cranbourne East Secondary College, as well a key part of improving and strengthening community links between students, parents and the wider CESC community.
During Pastoral Care, those wanting to become class captains will submit an expression of interest, early in Term 1. The 8 leaders along with teacher feedback will then elect class captains for 2017. Students will be presented with a badge during a Year 8 assembly.
It is imperative that we acknowledge the achievements and positive work ethic of our year 8 students. This is done in a number of ways and in a variety of settings. Awards include academic excellence and academic endeavour across all subjects. Also, we congratulate and award students for consistent outstanding uniform and punctuality to class.
Year 8 Assemblies
Our year 8 student voice leaders organise the majority of our assemblies. They inform students about upcoming events in the college and present students and even teachers with awards! We have some very talented students in year 8 who like to showcase their abilities by playing a musical instrument, singing, dancing or presenting a piece of work they are proud of. By allowing year 8 students to take responsibility for the assemblies they are developing leadership, teamwork and organisation skills while creating a fun and friendly environment for all involved.
